Dynamic differential methylation facilitates pathogen stress response in Arabidopsis.

چکیده

I n plants, DNA methylation plays important roles in silencing transposable elements (TEs) and endogenous genes. Several elegant examples of dynamic changes in DNA methylation during gamete or seed development have been recently described in Arabidopsis (1, 2). A considerable number of cell-to-cell variations in methylation have also been detected in vegetative tissues (3, 4); however, whether differential methylation during vegetative development is a regulated process with any biological function remained unknown. In PNAS, Dowen et al. (5) describe the finding that pathogen attacks result in dynamic changes in DNA methylation, which in turn lead to the transcriptional activation of defense-related genes and elevated resistance against pathogens.

Widespread dynamic DNA methylation in response to biotic stress.

Regulation of gene expression by DNA methylation is crucial for defining cellular identities and coordinating organism-wide developmental programs in many organisms. In plants, modulation of DNA methylation in response to environmental conditions represents a potentially robust mechanism to regulate gene expression networks; however, examples of dynamic DNA methylation are largely limited to ge...

Differential Expression of Arabidopsis thaliana Acid Phosphatases in Response to Abiotic Stresses

The objective of this research is to identify Arabidopsis thaliana genes encoding acid phosphatases induced by phosphate starvation. Multiple alignments of eukaryotic acid phosphatase amino acid sequences led to the classification of these proteins into four groups including purple acid phosphatases (PAPs). Specific primers were degenerated and designed based on conserved sequences of PAPs isol...

Differential expression of BnSRK2D gene in two Brassica napus cultivars under water deficit stress

The sucrose non-fermenting 1-related protein kinase 2 (SnRK2) family members are plant unique serine/threonine kinases which play a key role in cellular signaling in response to abiotic stresses. The three SnRK2 members including SRK2D, SRK2I and SRK2E are known to phosphorylate major abscisic acid (ABA) responsive transcription factors, ABF2 and ABF4, involved in an ABA-dependent stress signal...

The Arabidopsis elongator complex subunit2 epigenetically regulates plant immune responses.

The Arabidopsis thaliana Elongator complex subunit2 (ELP2) genetically interacts with NONEXPRESSOR OF PATHOGENESIS-RELATED GENES1 (NPR1), a key transcription coactivator of plant immunity, and regulates the induction kinetics of defense genes. However, the mechanistic relationship between ELP2 and NPR1 and how ELP2 regulates the kinetics of defense gene induction are unclear. Here, we demonstra...

Isolation of Brassica napus MYC2 gene and analysis of its expression in response to water deficit stress

Manipulation of stress related transcription factors to improve plant stress tolerance is a major goal of current biotechnology researches. MYC2 gene encodes a key stress-related transcription factor involved in Jasmonate (JA) and abscisic acid (ABA) signaling pathways in Arabidopsis. Brassica napus, as a globally important oilseed crop, is a close relative of Arabidopsis.  In the present study...
